Preparing the Class of 2030 for High School Success

Students work with counselors to select courses
DMS 8th graders select courses for 2026

School counselors from Downingtown Middle School and Downingtown West collaborated to guide the Class of 2030 through the high school course selection process. Students reviewed graduation requirements and explored a wide range of course options, with an emphasis on the value of high school electives and the many resources available to support future planning.

As part of the lesson, 8th-grade students revisited their Career Clusters of interest and learned how these interests connect to course selection decisions. Following the lesson, all students were invited to an elective fair, where teachers and students from Downingtown West shared insights into elective offerings and how they align with potential career pathways. As a final step in the process, all students attending Downingtown West or STEM will meet individually with a member of the school counseling team in February to ensure their questions are addressed and course selections are entered accurately and appropriately.
